Virus Corona Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) adalah merupakan salah satu jenis virus yang menyerang organ pernafasan orang yang mengidapnya yang merupakan jenis penyakit saluran pernafasan yang bisa mengakibatkan kematian. MERS – Cov adalah merupakan singkatan dari Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus. Virus ini merupakan jenis baru dari kelompok Corona virus (Novel Corona Virus).

Virus ini pertama kali dilaporkan pada bulan September 2012 di Arab Saudi. Virus SARS tahun 2003 juga merupakan kelompok virus Corona dan dapat menimbulkan pneumonia berat akan tetapi berbeda dari virus MERS Cov. Informasi yang diperoleh dari website Kementrian Kesehatan RI www.depkes.go.id memberitakan bahwasannya virus ini berbeda dengan coronavirus lain yang telah ditemukan sebelumnya.

Sehingga kelompok studi corona virus dari Komite Internasional untuk Taksonomi Virus memutuskan bahwa novel corona virus tersebut dinamakan sebagai MERS-Cov. Virus ini tidak sama dengan corona virus penyebab Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), namun mirip dengan corona virus yang terdapat pada kelelawar.

Gejala Dan Cara Penularan MERS

Ada beberapa hal yang bisa kita ketahui dalam rangka mengenali apa saja yang menjadi tanda-tanda orang terkena virus yang satu ini. Karena menyerang saluran pernafasan maka berikut tanda-tanda penyakit MERS antara lain adalah sebagai berikut :

• Demam.
• Batuk.
• Sesak Nafas (nafas pendek).
• Bersifat akut.

Sekitar separuh dari jumlah penderita meninggal. Sebagian dari penderita dilaporkan menderita penyakit saluran pernapasan tingkat sedang.

Sampai saat ini, masih terus dilakukan investigasi mengenai pola penularan MERS-Cov, karena telah ditemukan adanya penularan dari manusia ke manusia yang saling kontak dekat dengan penderita. Penularan dari pasien yang terinfeksi kepada petugas kesehatan yang merawat juga diamati. Selain itu, cluster dari kasus infeksi MERS-Cov di Arab Saudi, Jordania, the United Kingdom, Prancis, Tunisia, dan Italia juga diinvestigasi.

Virus ini dapat menular antar manusia secara terbatas, dan tidak terdapat transmisi penularan antar manusia yang berkelanjutan. Kemungkinan penularannya dapat melalui media sebagai berikut yaitu :

• Langsung : Melalui percikan dahak (droplet) pada saat pasien batu atau bersin.
• Tidak Langsung : Melalui kontak dengan benda yang terkontaminasi virus.

Untuk itu juga para pejabat di badan kesehatan dunia (WHO) seperti informasi yang dilansir dari www.voaindonesia.com juga menyatakan serta prihatin prihatin bahwa virus MERS mungkin akan menular ke para peziarah kaum muslimin yang diperkirakan akan mengunjungi tempat-tempat suci di Arab Saudi bulan depan dalam bulan Ramadan, atau jutaan lagi diperkirakan akan datang bulan Oktober untuk menunaikan ibadah Haji di Mekah.

Untuk itulah para jamaah haji Indonesia serta juga para tenaga kesehatan yang ikut serta dalam TKHI dan PPIH Tahun 2014 ini untuk selalu menjaga kesehatan dan melakukan tindakan pencegahan akan penularan penyakit yang disebabkan oleh karena corona virus yang disebut Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-Cov) ini.

Pengobatan Dan Vaksin Mers-Cov

Belum ada vaksin yang tersedia. Pengobatan anti viral yang bersifat spesifik belum ada, dan pengobatan yang dilakukan tergantung dari kondisi pasien. Pencegahan dengan menjalankan pol hidup yang sehat dengan melakukan PHBS (pola hidup bersih dan sehat), dan juga menghindari kontak erat dengan penderita, serta menggunakan masker, menjaga kebersihan tangan dengan sering mencuci tangan dengan sabun dan menerapkan etika batuk ketika sakit perlu untuk diterapkan dengan baik pula.
